Mayberry Places Third at Art Kraft Open

RIVER GROVE, Ill. - Christian Mayberry placed third at the Art Kraft Open in the 141 weight class.

"Christian definitely stepped up and is starting to tap into his confidence," said Westminster Head Coach Tony Eierman. "It was a great tournament for him to see what he's capable of and he really stepped up."

Mayberry's only loss of the day was to the No. 2 ranked junior college wrestler in the nation.

"Overall it was a great tournament," said Eierman. "It was a lot tougher than I thought and there were a lot of future Division I wrestlers there at the junior college level."

Hunter Tessman also won a match for the Blue Jays, going 1-2 on the day.

"It was a learning experience for Hunter, but we have a nice long break over Christmas," said Eierman. "We'll fine tune things and get back to it in January."

The Blue Jays compete January 27 at the Duhawk Open in Dubuque, Iowa.
