Women's Basketball: Blue Jays Host Blackburn College Preview

Fulton, Mo. - The Westminster College Blue Jay women's basketball team, flying high after a huge road win over Greenville University, will be back in action on Friday night at home.  Head Coach Talisha Washington and her team will host the Blackburn College Beavers for a 5:30 p.m. tip off in Historic Gym.

  Taking a look at the Westminster College Blue Jays (5-2, 3-1 SLIAC):

  • The Blue Jays are coming off of a 84-67 victory at Greenville.
  • Westminster leads the all-time series 31-28.
  • Westminster swept the season series last year winning 90-44 at Westminster and then 74-41 at Blackburn.
  • The Blue Jays are led in scoring by Reese Arnold at 17.1 PPG which is fourth in the SLIAC, Avylina Powel-Qualo follows with 12.3 PPG and Kallee Dowler 11.0 PPG.
  • Powel-Qualo leads the Blue Jays in rebounding with 8.0 RPG, which is fourth in the SLIAC, followed by Madison Schaeffer at 7.9 RPG good for fifth in the SLIAC.
  • Arnold leads the team averaging 3.0 assists per game.
  • Arnold and Abby Nichols lead the team in steals at 01.1 SPG and 1.0 SPG respectively.
  • After seven games the Blue Jays are averaging 80.1 PPG while shooting 43.1% from the field, 35.1% from the three-point line and 64.5% from the free throw line.

 Taking a look at the Blackburn College Beavers (1-3, 1-3 SLIAC):

  • Blackburn was picked 7th in the SLIAC Pre-season Coaches Poll.
  • The Beavers are led in scoring by freshman Mariah Hopson at 14.3 PPG. She is joined in double figures by sophomore Aryanna Harris at 10.0 PPG
  • The Beavers leading rebounders are Callista Francis at 8.0 RPG and Savannah Kruse at 6.8 RPG and Jenna Dudra at 6.3 RPG.
  • Blackburn is shooting 36.7% from the field, 25.0% from three-point range and 65.9% from the free throw line. Blackburn averages 67.8 PPG and gives up 75.5 PPG.
