Westminster College President Dr. Benjamin Ola. Akande is the new chair of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Presidents’ Council, SLIAC Commissioner Angie Morenz announced today.
As Chair, President Akande will preside over meetings of the President’s Council, set the agenda and order of business and serve as the Council’s spokesperson.
“SLIAC holds our student-athletes to the highest standards of integrity and sportsmanship and ensures intercollegiate competitions are conducted in a fair, impartial manner,” says President Akande. “I am honored to have been elected to serve such an outstanding organization as SLIAC and the President’s Council for the next academic year.”
Chartered in 1989, SLIAC is composed of ten private institutions from Kentucky, Illinois, Iowa and Missouri. Its purpose is to provide an association through which member colleges and universities can encourage organized competition in intercollegiate sports among teams representative of their student bodies.
Student-athletes of SLIAC member schools compete for conference, regional and national championships. Seven different men sports and seven different women’s sports are represented in the conference.
President Akande will serve a two-year term as President’s Council Chair.
